What duties/operations does S1 handle in Saudi Arabia vs Garrison (or do they remain the same)? What would be their hours of operations?

SGT (Join to see) I don’t know what type of units you have been a part of, but as the S-1 of any unit I’ve been a part we don’t have time to do anything except HR functions. No matter what the units mission is, the S-1’s function remains the same; advise the CDR on all personnel related matters and provide HR support. SGM Bill Frazer said it perfectly, if you want to know the details of what that unit excepts from the S-1 then get with your BN XO. The XO runs the staff for the CDR. Also, engage with the unit CSM as he has direct input on all personnel matters as well. No matter the location, there are basic S-1 duties that must still be accomplished. There will be some minor specific duties from being posted in Saudi Arabia vs Germany vs Texas, but you would need to engage with someone who is currently in the unit to find out.

SSG Fleming, thank you for the reply but can I get a bit more detail though..example, other than Promotions, Awards, etc being done in the Shop, what other functions does S1 handle that's specific to Saudi Arabia?
In Iraq, I took part in Intel Ops and also went on missions with the line units, the Infantry Platoons. In Afghanistan, I became the Battalion Liaison and networking/scheduling flights in and out FOB AOs/JAF/BAF. In GTMO, Cuba, I'm handling parts of Detainee Ops, since I'm Mobilized with an Military Police Unit. So I'm trying to get an idea of what IS expected in Saudi Arabia, over what SHOULD BE? I've learned that in all my S1 experiences, I've never just done S1 functions, I've done other things.
That's why I'm wondering, specifically from an S1 point of view, who's been or is deployed/mobilized to Saudi Arabia, if he/she can provide guidance as to what is expected of them now that they're there or been there already.

The job of any staff shop is the same regardless where they are located, tho those in OCONUS might have some extra duties, depending the level of the unit. As for hours, those are regulated by the direction of the unit XO for the Commander. Duty times are sit based on the unit's mission and the shop's manning..
