For me a combo of trail mix and or jerky has always been a favorite of mine. But I have a weakness for Jalapeno flavored chips and Chex Mix. No one thing ever did it for me. But the one thing I didn't care for but I saw a lot of people munching on was pork rinds.

When I was Infantry, it was jerky with pretzels or salted sunflower kernels (skipped the shelled kind, as I hated spitting out shells just to get to the kernels.) and powered Gatorade for my little treks into the desert.

When I went into the Reserves and we took poggie bait on cross-country drives, whatever gas station fare was available along the way was fair game until we closed in on our final objective; and knowing we'd be spending a week or two at some far off post, with limited or no ability to hit up a shoppette or gas station, I'd load up on jerky (always), and perhaps opt for more comfort snacks and some candy. Don't get me wrong, I loved our cooks and all, but there's only so much they could do with what they work with!

Tortilla chips (especially with salsa) is my fitness kryptonite. I can walk past the donuts and candy all day long, but tortilla chips, game over. I'll eat them all.

One of those guys, the smell alone on the smoked oysters used to turn my stomach. Maybe because I got sick on some mussels . But I could not get near those things.
