What was the dumbest or most erroneous military board question you were ever asked?

Boards for promotion, or boards for "of the Quarter", "of the Year", or Supernumary Selections for Guard Duty all involve knowing (or memorizing) answers to questions. Trouble is, sometimes the answers...or the question itself...and the Study Guide...is wrong.

I was asked about my favorite sports team and, while I do really like baseball and love talking about the sport, it struck me as something odd to ask during a board. There are so many other things to ask about leadership, technical knowledge, etc. why does it matter who I root for and whether or not I follow football? It has become a pet peeve of mine when sitting boards.

I don't disagree with you, CMSgt Danny Roby, but there are better ways to accomplish both of those goals without resorting to questions that have no bearing on the board.

Always thought it was funny that on the big screen it seemed to be a baseball around the World Series. While on TV it was college football.

Lord if i could only remember all of those,But alass i can not LOL Although i do remember sweating bullets awaiting my turn to enter the board. I guess the Dumbest thing I remember is the board uniform once was in full battle gear and camo on my face

The old wives' tale (or is it?) about the flag pole and the truck containing certain things. I believed this for decades ... until recently, actually.

Yes, that is one of many. I wrote about that one in my column, Military Trivia, in the Stars and Stripes and many military newspapers. Will follow up on that soonest. The other Q you kindly provided didn't pop up when I posted mine.. The "TRUCK" Q has some rather outlandish answers, when in fact the idea of the truck is not correct. The "truck" is a pully-like device located below the FINIAL. The Finial is the top of the flag staff --marking the location of the "staff". It's not a "pole", for a pole is carried into battle, derived from the Pike. If not a pike, another type of finial is on top, usually an effigy based on the Roman Vexilloids or Vella (a "flag with an animal effigy or symbol of the Legion). Many other Qs were placed in study guides by disgrunted draftees (company clerks) who typed them up!

LOL...1stSgt James Nolan is it Myth or Fact... in 1989 there seem to be enough times when troops were having certain problems during that time line. Some who repeated problems with finance.
