I would like them to do research and have a better understanding of the skill sets that a SM brings. I have often been labeled as a low to mid-level worker due to being an E-5. It doesn't matter that I worked for Colonels, or that I am on my third degree (MBA). I often see that military experience, while almost the same as corporate, is often conflated with shooting, moving, and communicating, as if that is all we do.

It would also be helpful if there were clear boundaries set, with respect to what an SM is used too. Many SM's are still overwhelmingly respectful, and use Sir or Ma'am when speaking to seniors employees. This can be awkward, and letting them know exactly how you want to be addressed is key.

I think it is also important to set a work/life expectation. If the job doesn't require 24-hour dedication, let them know. SM's will often work after hours, or forget to punch out because mission comes first.

I wish companies match veterans salary to their acquire skills from the military, meaning starting you at top dollar or close to it because you are bringing a lot to the workforce to buildup productivity and profits.

Care that you served. One thing I recognized after I transitioned out, was that my military service didn't really matter to a good majority of the employers I applied to. I also hated going to gas stations and seeing donation boxes for things like "Help find jobs for Vets" yet nobody was out there showing me where I could get such help connecting with companies who want to hire vets. Vets need to know where they can reach out to locally for assistance in finding local jobs when they get home.

I agree 100%. A lot of companies say they want to hire vets but the do not make it very easy when transitioning vets are trying to find local jobs.
