I'm prior service Navy in college for cyber security. I'm planning on doing Army ROTC and possibly joining the Army Reserves as well so that I can commission as an officer when I graduate in 2021. Would my prior service matter in this instance?

Not as a 17 series. Anything higher than O-1 requires a direct commission or specialty such as Doctor or Lawyer with a specialized graduate degree or doctorate.

Prior service officers start as O-1E with a different pay scale depending on the length of your prior service.

Thanks, I had a feeling it probably wouldn't be the case. Would my overall time in affect my pay?

SN Kevin Neff - https://militarybenefits.info/2018-military-pay-charts/

O1-O3 essentially get the "with 4 years in service" rate. O1-O2 with more than 10 have a higher "cap" than their peers with the same TIS

SN Kevin Neff - Yes it will. Your prior service will be calculated in and your pay would be higher than an O-1 with no prior service.

The only way you can commission as a Cyber Operations Officer (17A) at a rank higher than an O-1 is through the Cyber Direct Commissioning Program: https://www.goarmy.com/army-cyber/cyber-direct-commissioning-program.html Your time in service would count towards increased pay for your rate. If you have any questions regarding Cyber, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for that. I'm hoping it's something I can do.

Unless you hold a certain degree in a specific area (IE, physician assistant, MD, lawyer, etc) it will not happen.
