We have had a lot of discussions about leadership but what role does personal play in leading others?   Does the troops liking you matter?  This can include your uniform,  hair and military tradition.  I would love to hear how this matters to you.

Its highly important! If you have no pride in yourself, how can you expect to instill pride in your subordinates. Appearance and attitude in front of your troops goes a long way.

People are more interested in why you do what you do instead of what you do.  Taking pride in yourself shows that you as well care about what you do.  When I see one who takes pride in something it draws me to it.  What is it about "x" that makes this person care about it so much?  Should I care about it to?

I would try to find out why it matters to him and see if it fits the big picture.   That it doesn't run contrary to the aims of a unit.

From the beginning the president has talked about American Exceptionalism; then we get mostly current SMs continuing the rant about how evil the country is. Being buffoons they actually are not critical of anything this administration says. And then talk about critical thinking. A perfect example is climate change as per AGW crowd. They mix and blend two concepts in one but then say weather people do not get it. Scientists have banged on the doors of academia to no effect and those who do so-called, non-bias peer reviews have no idea expect political correctness. That IS a major problem and it must be overturned because it is literally collapsing this country.
