I’m considering applying to the Army Congressional Fellowship or the Whitehouse Fellowship. I’ve read the information regarding the programs in the Broadening Opportunities Catalog and I understand the programmatic requirements. Has anyone participated in either program? Please give me the good, the bad, and the ugly associated with them.

This might not be exactly what you're looking for but someone from one of the congressional district offices passed this along:

The Fellows would probably not be at the top, even if they are "senior" staff in the military, but they could end up there eventually. Whatever the case, I would recommend it if a person has any interest. Even if it ends up not being a future career path, you learn a lot about how the government works, as well as an appreciation of the sacrifices people outside of the military also make in service to the country. It also helps you understand problems that need to be addressed and their complexity. So, a fellow may not go on to serve in a congressional office, but they may identify an issue they are passionate about and have a better ability to impact it understanding how the government works (and doesn't).

Aloha John,
I have not experienced it but there is a possibility I may Intern after getting my Masters in Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security. If I find out any more, I'll let you know. A security clearance will be conducted for the agency that you will be embedded with.
