I would like to take the time to remind everyone that today is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Please take a moment of peace for the soldiers we lost , their family's , the ones who died in battle , & pray for the ones that are deployed now or will be deployed. Rest in peace. Decemeber 7, 1941 will never be forgotten.

There is a great movie that shows post-war Japan that also does a decent representational analysis of the factors that drove Japan into war. It is a must see in my opinion. It is available for free on Netflix (and probably online elsewhere).

SFC Mark Merino I'm working in a company where most of the people are gaijin. I commuted to work on the train and have been walking around Tokyo today and no one has given me the stink eye. It's barely on any of the Japanese news sites, although it may be on tonight.
You know in school they never taught us why the Japanese attacked us other than it was an opportunity b/c the US was considered weak at the time.
It was really a continuation of wanting to remain free from outside influence. "Commodore Matthew Perry of the U.S. Navy sailed into Tokyo Bay in 1853 and ordered the Japanese to open their country to trade with the outside world." Before then contacting the outside world was punishable by death

SFC Mark Merino Recruiting companies always need people, but it's not a job if you value seeing your family. But you don't have to speak Japanese, so that's convenient.
I'm staying here in the Kanto area b/c it's so close to all the bases. I'm going on orders soon, but I'm still trying to get a job on base. If that doesn't work we'll be heading back to the States.

MAJ (Join to see) Could you message me some details about your job, POC's, requirements, etc? We might just go there and get set up instead of trying to land the job first. All the GS-jobs I apply for interview me and then once they realize I'm not there already they move on. I can be there in a week but they choose to hire locals only.

PFC (Join to see), this is my photo of the memorial of the USS Arizona (BB-39), which was sunk by Japanese aircraft during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawai'i on 7DEC41 and still rests in the berth where she sank. 1,177 officers and men were lost with the ship and “remain on duty” inside her rusting hulk. The memorial to her crew was built over the sunken ship in 1962 and I've visited it twice. It's a haunting reminder of the past and should prompt us now and always to be ever more vigilant, prepared and strong.

Sir, I am out of votes so I owe you an up vote. The USS Arizona Memorial is a humbling and amazing place to see. I've only been there once but would like to take my family sometime.
PFC (Join to see), yes, we did lose a lot of lives that day but we also found a strong resolve to seek justice and do right. We can't do anything to change the past (unless one is into revisionist history) but we can sure learn from it in order to improve and not make similar mistakes. One of my favorite quotes is from the poet George Santayana: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Went out there and had the honor of visiting the USS Arizona memorial. It was one of the most humbling inspiring moments of my life. If you have little faith in what we as Americans fight for, and wonder if war could be any harsher, remember these guys and take a moment to reflect on their sacrifices. It's why we all serve.

When you are at that memorial it grabs you and sucks you in. It just has such a profound effect on you. When I was at Arlington it had the same effect on me. It is very difficult to explain to civilians but I know you all understand.
