I know they just launched the Navy type 3 NWUs (pictured). My son told me his Chief announced that Type 4s are coming soon. That's awfully quick for another new uniform change don't you think?.

what I don't understand why the fleet needs camo's. I was in the Seabees 71-75 then 81-97 and we didn't get them until 93 I think. I'd just as soon wear are old utility greens especially the cotton.

We got them in 93, the reason was we were the only and I mean only unit that had them, so less then at that time around 16, 000 troops in all the Military had the greens. I think it was best decision for us to go into the BDU, they made since especially in times and deployments that the Seabees were about to start. We would be out in places like Africa and south/central America having a comfortable BDU made since vice a uniform that you had to keep tucked in, and looking good. I also liked when we went to the NWU II and III, these are the best uniforms I have worn while serving. I wore Greens, in Combat area in Desert and that sucked, luckily I was part of a Special Task Force and when we attached with Marines (Task Force Troy) and went up front they put us in the Chocolate Chips, because we would be in direct Combat area. Also wore the DCU's they were good and needed in the desert area's, wore Army ACU's and Multi Cam while attached with JTF's and then the NWU II and III.

The reason the Navy is going to NWU III is for shore, overseas and Homeport and Deployed uniform is because the NECC and NSW units will always have that uniform, so they won't have to buy any different kinds of uniforms like the NWU I (Blue ones)so for about 50,000 to 80,000 troops they decided to make one uniform for all and this would make everyone uniform instead of 3 or 4 different ones all around bases. The other is Navy is deploying with JTF's and not just working and deploying on ships, so again one uniform would make since.

Lol. No way. They have much better uniforms than we did. Though at see, I mostly wore coveralls.

One reason is because like the blueberries these are not suitable for ship board wear. They are a synthetic blend which is still dangerous to the wearer in a fire.
