I've accepted an E-5 slot at another National Guard Company. What are some things to expect as an E-4 going into an E-5 slot before BLC?

Be the best leader you can be and the leader you would want to follow. Get to BLC ASAP. Go out of your way to look out for your subordinates best interests and always be the proverbial "shit umbrella". Don't ever assume you know better than anyone subordinate to you, listen to your Soldiers, then make a decision and execute. Live the NCO creed.

I was an E-4(p) who once slid into an Army Reserve E5 slot; from my experience I say expect that THEY expect you to get promoted sooner rather than later, so do what you must to make that happen.

All soldiers are expected to pass drill and ceremony, put test, and lead pt already on the first day. Land Nav is supposed to be gone. No outside STX and instead of the three writing assignments, they were going to do five I believe. A lot more writing and class time. This was told to me by my SGLs who were given the heads about the changes.
I wrote a final survey to USASMA about keeping in the STX because of leadership decisions and land nav because it was important as a survival skill in personnel recovery.

Knowing the fine balance between authority and that you're still an E-4. Dont carry the chip on your soldier especially at a new unit. The trials and errors I had to figure how to influence others without being overbearing was a good skill I carried over through BLC and transitioning into being a sergeant

Thanks brother, i am one of the senior E-4s at charlie so im constantly pushing then joes below me to do the best they can to make themselves stronger... with having that involvment i been able learn to respect authority and having to use authority without crossing that line. I appreciate the advice thanks again
