Why are so many Service Members and Veterans giving First Sergeant Moerk such a hard time for responding to an unethical online behavior?

Correct me if i'm wrong here but are we not leaders 24/7? Some are upset because she received an Arcom. So what? I believe she did the right thing. What are your thoughts?

SSG (Join to see) I do not think it was so much calling her out for trying to stop idiotic behavior by military members, but in that she received an ARCOM for it.
Not sure it had to get elevated as it did, but it did.
Yep, leaders 24/7 and stop stupidity when we see it, Roger That. A medal for it? Excessive. That is what was being said.

Yes, we are "Leaders" 24/7. That is not the issue. The problem is three fold. 1: she was given an award for making a post on facebook. Do you have any idea the number of troops that do that on a regular basis? Where is there award? How about the troops that show leadership by volenteering for double and even triple shifts simply to set the example? I could go on for days on this. 2: She got a medal for doing something called tattletaling, aka throwing people under the bus, dime dropping, brown nosing, blue falcon. She got an award for being a blue falcon. That's not "leadership" that is "management" at best; childish behaviour at worst... And she got rewarded for it. Troops in many branches and even a lot of veterans are now referring to the ARCOM as the "blue falcon award". Seriously, do you have any idea the amount of damage tht has done to moral, motivation, and troop unity? Part of being a leader is being selfless and being able to look and asses a situation beyond it's face value. She didn't and neither did command for giving her the award. Also let me throw this in there. Ask yourself, did anything change from her actions? Did the mission get completed? No. It's worse now because of her actions. 3: Professionalism and Bearing. She didn't have it. She could have recommended to command and pushed for training on cyber professionalism. She could have taken down there names and contacted there command through the CHAIN OF COMMAND (don't even get me started on the number of obscure regs she broke). Heck she could have just responded onfacebook with a "professional" reminder that people can see their actions. But no, she flips out and completely loses her bearing and professionalism and ends up undermining her own authority and the authority of the rank she holds.... And then gets awarded for it. Are you starting to see the problem yet?

Not sure why it is a big deal about her getting an ARCOM. I once got one for loading a trailer with a fork truck that I did not even have a license.
I think she did a bunch more than I did.

1SG Moerk needs to stop being a snoop and know her role. Lead by example and do not be brown nosing for own good. Army has gone soft especially when SMA Chandler took over. Before him you didn't hear squat. You got beef with someone you took it out back for wall to wall counseling. Anyone has their feeling hurt over stupid shit needs to move along. I lived in the barracks on several installations. You find out who the barrack whores/players quick like especially before deployment.

SPC Ronald Cleary - Not sure what your talking about bud. You were a SPC, no discredit there just pointing out that you were never a 1SG to know what her role is. I was in the Army since 1997 and at no time ever in any of my Infantry units did we ever have wall to wall counseling. So not sure what your talking about.

Description In accordance with AR 600-8-22 (Military Awards), the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who distinguishes himself or herself by heroism, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service. This award can also be granted to a foreign national who distinguishes himself or herself by an act of heroism, extraordinary achievement, or meritorious service which has been of mutual benefit to a friendly nation and the United States. The ARCOM can be given for heroism in combat or noncombat and for achievement or service during peacetime or wartime. The approval authority for a wartime award is U.S. Army Human Resources Command (HRC).
Above is the description of what the ARCOM is and what it can be awarded for. Did this person deserve that award according to this description? In my own honest opinion, I do not believe so. A challenge coin, sure. A handshake, sure. ARCOM? No.

Oh sure, use facts and quote the reg. Next you will be wanting people to do what is right because it is what we are supposed to do as leaders, solders...human beings.
