http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/01/06/boehner-aims-to-quash-leadership-challenge-as-gop-takes-control-congress/

John Boehner just won a third term as speaker of the house and Senator Mitch McConnell is Speaker of the House. Both Boehner and McConnell have dealt conservatives some serious blows in the past and have not always shown the spine it takes to stand up to the Obama administration.

Will the new Republican dog and pony show stand up to the current administration, or will it be business as usual?

I heard a good report on NPR this afternoon about the new Congress. They interviewed a Freshman Congresswoman who said that success for her meant getting bills through the process and to the President's desk. From there it would be up to the American people to decide if the President's vetoes are reasonable or not.

I believe (and sincerely hope) that the new Congress will be able to pass bills and move them to the White House. From there it will be up to us to decide if the President is acting reasonably or politically.

CW5 (Join to see) While I agree that getting bills passed would be a huge sign of progress, will the bills bring about any change?

It is looking like there will be a showdown between Congress and the president over the Keystone Pipeline bill. Prior to the new Congress taking over, there was finally a budget passed, however, the only thing the budget does is to allow the government to continue spending us further in debt.

Forgive me for being such a pessimist, but my confidence in the US Government is very low. Boehner wants to concentrate on the economy and jobs, and the Keystone pipeline will at least help to a some degree.

At this point I am waiting and watching. I pray I am wrong about things, but the hope and change of the past has about killed our economy and left me little hope there will be any significant change.

LCpl Steve Wininger, I think that Congress alone will be more productive in attempting to effect change. However, it remains to be seen as to how effective they'll actually be in working with the Executive branch of government. Vetoed legislation won't help us at all. I'm hopeful that the Legislative and the Executive branches will work together to pass and approve legislation that is good for the American people.

LTC Stephen C. Ideally, that is the way government should work. Unfortunately, agendas and party lines get in the way. The executive and legislative will probably never agree on everything, however, there has to be a happy medium. After all, it is the people that suffer the most from partisan politics.
