So I've been preparing my own taxes with turbo tax for the last 7 years, this year is a doozy. I'm curious as to if being in the IRR counts as still being a reservist for tax purposes. If anyone has an idea, please let me know.

Are you still drilling and getting paid in the IRR or you just IRR? Either way you still reserve until you get your discharge papers

I have a DD214, the IRR doesn't drill, just occasional check-ins and if there is a muster, we have to show up for that. I DEP'd on 01/19/2012, EAS'd 09/01/2017 and EOS on 01/19/2020.

SGT Eric Davis - Because there are are things on my 2018 Taxes that ask about Veteran/Active Duty/Reserve Status.

You are technically still in the army. As long as you are in the irr. You accumulate something like 15 retirement points per year while in the irr but you receive no pay. Tax software will ask you if you are in the army which will signal the software to give you the military pay questions. If you didn’t receive any pay, you won’t have a 1040 to enter so it won’t really “do any thing” for you. I’m not a tax professional though so you may still want to talk to a tax professional.

You are in the Reserves. Are you getting any active duty for training to accumulate points towards retirement? Usually about two weeks a year.
