AF Missile Officer sentenced to confinement and dismissal; is the sentence fair?

"The launch button is .......soooooo......soft."

Officer has the ability to launch nuclear warheads 3,000+ miles. Officer is doing drugs. What's the worst that could happen?

And she was an O-1 as well. I mean, she may have only been in the AF a year. I would also want to go back and look at her pre-commission training and evaluation reports to see if this individual should have EVER been put behind nuclear warheads...

I am stationed at Malmstrom AFB. I can tell you that there is no reason this young AF Member did not know/understand that taking illegal drugs was forbidden and subject to punishment. It is put out at all Wing briefings, Group Briefings, Squadron Briefings and just about any other time there is a group of people. It is not only a Malmstrom AFB standard, but also and Air Force standard, as well as DoD standard. I could see potential of less punishment for a 1x incident, especially if she was "spiked".... 5 times is what she admitted to. No clue how many more times there may have been. I feel that the punishment is appropriate and fair. While command was being held responsible to find/punish people, all reviews and punishments were by the numbers. Commanders (the new crew, as the old crew was already replaced/fired) were doing what was right.
