This question is for the USARNG and USAR NCOs on Rally Point, what leadership development tools have you found successful in developing leadership in junior enlisted outside of BLC (WLC, PLDC), BNCOC, etc. since you don't have a daily interaction with your troops like those who are enlisted in the Army "full time"?

SSG Christopher Parrish Using D & C classes as confidence builders. MSG (Join to see)

After the young Sp4s were practiced a bit, I would challenge the better ones to pass my simple test: Acting as a Platoon SGT, w/ the Platoon marching - call 1st Squad, Rear March - 2nd Squad Rear March - ect. Then once they were all strung out - Have the wanna- be NCO start calling: 1st Squad, Rear March - 2nd Squad, Rear March - to get the platoon back together in a regular Platoon formation.

After some practice, some of my young Soldiers were able to maintain a rhythm and accomplish daunting task. The few successful ones were relieved to actually have done it and developed a sense of confidence.

D&C will certainly help get the nerves out, once you march a platoon in to a wall once or twice you're golden after that.

For my role in the TXSG the closest to combat we'll see is something like hurricane Harvey, which that month deployment did certainly help some hidden leaders bubble up to the top and helped other leaders identify some gaps on the fly for sure.

I have found love; to be a very effective leadership development too. Love works!
