Today, in an unanimous decision, the U.S. Senate passed the Clay Hunt SAV Act. This critical legislation increases access to mental health care and combats Veterans Suicides. The IAVA played a large role in getting this to the Senate.

How do you see this bill working to combat the suicides within the DoD? What more do you think can be done?

I've been following this. Senator Coburn blocked this initially because of "duplication of effort" and "accountability" concerns.

On paper the act looks good, but I have a feeling Sen Coburn may be right. We already have the resources which we aren't using appropriately.

I'd love to believe that throwing more money at this will fix it. But I just can't see how the VA is the right organization to lead this. Every interaction I've ever head with them from a medical standpoint has left me more frustrated than I started.

I'm glad it passed. Maybe if we pass enough of these, something will work eventually though.
