As of 01 October 2014, the 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment was discontinued and the Special Troops Battalion, Fort Jackson was organized. The Reflagging Ceremony was on Friday, 30 January 2015 at Fort Jackson, SC.

This Battalion and missions goes back under multiple unit names and organization to the 1990s at Fort Jackson. It has been providing support for all units across Fort Jackson since January 1, 1998 and this was the fourth name since then. It started out as Task Force Victory in 1998, then reorganized and renamed as the Victory Support Battalion in July 2005. In January 2009 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment activated.

It exercises mission command and provide training and administrative support to assigned, attached and administratively controlled units in order to facilitate Fort Jackson Army Training Center to conduct Initial Military Training and support Fort Jackson Partners in Excellence. It is also prepared to conduct installation contingency operations and force protection of Fort Jackson.

Originally established as Task Force Victory on January 1, 1998, the Battalion was created and included units from across Fort Jackson:
Headquarters and Headquarters Company, United States Army Training Center and Fort Jackson
Alpha Company (administrative support)
Bravo Company (range support)
282nd Army Band
United States Army Student Detachment (USASD)
748th EOD

On July 29, 2005, Task Force Victory reorganized and was renamed as the Victory Support Battalion, maintaining the previous force structure but adding the Provost Marshall. Bravo Company continued to support Ranges with a Three Committee system: Basic Rifle Marksmanship (Rifle, Machine Gun, and Explosives), Combat Indoctrination (Anzio, Bastogne, Chip-Yong Ni, Confidence Course, Land Navigation, Night Infiltration Course, Omaha, and Remagen), and General Subjects (Bayonet Assault Course, Fit to Win, Map Reading, NBC Chamber, Teamwork Development Course, and Victory Tower). Alpha Company provided Cadre support for the Post and Garrison Command group, the Staff Judge Advocate, the Inspector General and the G3.

The 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry activated on January 26, 2009 and assumed the Victory Support Battalion’s mission and responsibilities on April 15, 2009. From 2009 on, in addition to their main mission of training support across Fort Jackson, the 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment grew to provide mission command and support for multiple disparate units and organizations from across Fort Jackson to include:
Headquarters & A Company
Bravo Company
282nd Army Band
US Army Student Detachment (USASD)
17th Military Police Detachment and 208th MP Det (MWD)
Headquarters and Headquarters Company Army Training Center and Fort Jackson

It also provides administrative and UCMJ support for the following units:
HHC/171st Infantry Brigade
Drill Sergeant Academy
Victory College
US Army Chaplain Center and School
Trial Defense Service

This Battalion has been effectively supporting so much across Fort Jackson for quite a while, just with different names. The missions remain the same, with each company and detachment providing their specialized subject matter experts to ensure that all trainees and cadre from multiple units across Fort Jackson receive the training and administrative support necessary to continue to be the premier initial entry training site for the Army.
