I'm getting assigned to a MP Company out there, but I'm really unsure on the process, if I should email my gaining commander, what the officer quarters are like, etc. I've been ARNG for the last 4 years and am now transferring to Active Duty as part of my commission. Any help, advice, or tips are appreciated!

1LT (Join to see) the process is you flow into theater, believe everyone flies into Incheon now. The replacement detachment rounds up all the soldiers who just flew in. They inprocess you into theater, then arrange for transport to your camp, post, or station by your unit or they put you on a bus with others going there too. You may spend the night depending on how late it is. You'll in process your unit and be assigned quarters. Your battalion commander and company commander will figure out your initial assignment.

There are multiple posts on RP about what goes into a BN Commander letter of introduction. Recommend you write one. Contact the unit S1 to ensure you are still on their gains roster.

1LT (Join to see) - the Senior MP officer is usually dual hatted as the provost martial who works closely with the Garrison Commander and Senior Commander (who is considered the installation commander, designated in AR600-20) on maintaining law and order. Occasionally the mission will be large enough where there is a PM independently designated. Had that happen at Camp Humphreys, at the time we had one MP Company there. With all the realignment in USFK over the last 10 years can't tell you what any of it looks like.

As you know the MP units have different missions, law enforcement on the installation is only one of them. There will be a churn of LE support and your unit's training in battlefield traffic control, area security, etc. the LE piece in Korea is interesting. Down range Saturday night, policy up Joes from off limits places, curfew violations, lots of drunk and disorderly.

You should get a sponsor from the unit that would be able to answer all your questions. If you don’t get one in time then if you do know the Commander than I would email them and they should answer questions or give you a sponsor to help.

Another thing. If you do ship some stuff over it does take like a month or by boat to get there. 1LT (Join to see)

1LT (Join to see) you may get a sponsor assigned to you by HRC by email. The DCO of my brigade came up as that sponsor.

LTC Stephen Conway Thanks, Sir! It's sounding more and more like I'm jumping the gun a little early on everything and just need to wait on an email closer to my report date.
