Can anyone walk me through the process of tranfering from USMC to Army MP? I got out of USMC in 04 and just re-enlisted into the Army National Guard_144th MP Co. Corunna, MI. I picked up Sgt. In USMC IRR but re-enlisted in Army as SPC because I picked up Sgt in IRR.

Welcome to the MI Guard.
It appears that your questions have been already answered.  I do know quite a few NCOs in the 144 MP Co and
they will definitely help with your transition.
I am currently working with USMC in Liberia and I will say that there isn’t’
too many differences between the USAR and USMC.
Few things to remember are that we don’t have an “AllHands” in the Army;
it’s just a meeting or CUB/BUB.  We also don’t
call “Attention on deck” for grade Officers, just Attention adding a specific location
if needed (E.I. - Attention in the TOC).
E7 -SFC, usually a platoon sergeant and referred to as SGT not
Gysgt.  We actually just use “SGT” for E5
to E7.  E8 and above is when you would
use the complete rank. There is no “Master guns” just MSG.  Lastly, the uniform is very similar with the
exception that we don’t roll up our sleeves as that has been recently authorized
by the USMC. We also wear patches to identify unit... Everything else will be OJT for you.  I know this is a bit Barney Style; however it’s
just few of the differences that I had seen here. Good Luck.

SFC Shroeder, thank you for the knowledgeable insight and explanations. Your posting has been very helpful. I can say so far that the 144th NCO's I have met so far are squared away and good to go! I love being back in and serving my country again. Stay safe and alive SFC!

My 1st question would be did you go to WLC for the E5 or was it just awarded, also if you had a break in service and it was longer than 2 years, you many times will lose at least one stripe, but again not enough information in your post to give an accurate answer or where the send you for further guidance.

The current AR 670-1 which covers the uniform wear and appearance is currently being updated, but you can probably find the most recent one online if you Google it to utilize in the mean time, the updated one has been pending for over a year so it will probably still be awhile before anyone sees it.

Now as far as customs and courtesies, I am quite sure everything you were taught in Marine boot will suffice for now, but if you want to they are also easily found online under Army customs and courtesies or Drill and Ceremonies for the most current regulations on both.

That is about the easiest way to read up and find information in our digital age, you could also hit up your local recruiting office to have them give you some practice as well on D&C and C&C.

Good luck and enjoy the new unit and job.

If you went to the Corporals Course in the Marines, you will not have to do WLC (as long as you have documentation). Welcome to the Guard!

Yes, VERY streamlined process! The NG LOVES us prior ordeal dogs! It was easy when I switched from USMCR to NG in 90 after USMC active duty and it’s even easier now.
