I am a ESEO in a small Med Det in a small state. I was until recently dual status until I found a job closer to home. There's very few opportunities for PM training and missions and I find myself begging to do my job instead of menial tasks. Recent events have shown me There are lots of opportunities out there, some closer to home. I like the unit but I definitely feel frustrated . At what point is it time to seek out new opportunities?

Sir, as I'm a 68S, I can certainly agree with your sentiments. I'd say you're already at that point. I had hit that point as well...which is why I had to branch out to see other opportunities.

CPT (Join to see) - I ended up having to "jump shit" to another unit that was deploying that needed my skills. I haven't switched MOS's, I just switched units. But, now that the mission is over, I'm back where I started. And now, after making some contacts at SLC, I am highly considering branching out again to either be an Instructor or an OC/T

I don’t think there is such thing as greener grass in the National Guard. You’re really just moving from one suck to the next. If you like and get along with the people in your current unit, I feel that’s as much as you can hope for in the Guard.
Not to mention the ESO position is never really managed well in units on the Guard side because it’s so rare, no body knows what the fuck to do with it. I’ve heard it’s true on the active duty side as well.
If you want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes, try split training with the unit you are considering transferring to in order to determine if you’d be doing anything different.
Even a deployed ESO doesn’t do a whole lot of ESO stuff because there isn’t a ton to do, honestly. And I’m telling you that from experience (currently deployed DIV ESO).

I have actually found a few reserve opportunities relatively close to my house. Some IMA and one with a Civil Affairs Unit. There is a state close to me with what appears to be a pretty solid program.
The issue Im having is there are limited opportunities in my state as there are less than 2000 soldiers. I have managed to make some pretty good opportunities where I am at, but with only one slot in the whole state theres not alot of other opportunities, even with normal medical service officer duties, except possibly command( but thats a whole other headache there). I think doing research on where you want to go before you go is important so you jump so its not something worse.
