Our Army son is graduating OCS soon and will have 10 days before he has to report to his BOLC B. We'd like to take him on vacation to Puerto Rico, but are not sure it's allowed. I know he cannot travel out of the country, but PR is a U.S. Territory and still has an active Army installation at Fort Buchanan.

Would that be permitted?

Thank you!

That is up to his Company Commander. He needs to do a DA31 Leave and PAss Request IAW the unit policy for pass and leave.

OCS is at Fort Benning, GA. Where is his BOLC? He needs to speak to his cadre now, so that orders can be cut with leave in between OCS and BOLC. That's the only wrinkle here.

Everything else, as long as he's where he needs to be, when he needs to be there, while on leave he can go wherever he likes inside the US.

I just wanted to make sure that Puerto Rico "counts" as "inside the US," given that it is a territory rather than a state.

We won't know for sure where his BOLC B will happen until he branches so that is a factor.

Patricia McIntosh-Mize - It's US territory. You don't need a passport to go there, so it counts.

I would think in the planning of this vacation is, how much time would he need to be on the ground before reporting date or does he need that time?
