My opinion is that they have been taught it at home, in our schools, in our colleges, and reinforced by our media

Goes back to the saying: For those that fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

With roughly 1% having served in the military, the masses are free to groan and moan about everything that sucks while that very 1% carries everyone's load.

That being said, those that have fought, are in many cases dissatisfied in what they find themselves to have fought for.
We fought for family, for security, for an American dream. Many of us came back to find none, or little of that waiting for us. We see problems we want fixed. Senator Tom Cotton has stepped in to the ring along with many others like Tami Duckworth, Ruben Gallego, and Ryan Zinke, to name a few, have taken steps to fix things they see wrong on the national stage, even as others try to work closer to home with non-profit organizations and politics. But we need a game plan that works and a team that is cohesive. I am so sick of kindergarten politics right now.

PO3 M. James, in the area of our Vietnam Vets the ones that burnt the flag called it protesting and showing they were a shamed of what the government had our military was doing over there. Remember hearing about the baby killers and things on that line?

From reading some of my fathers notes the personal spreading the propaganda forgot to tell, "The Rest of The Story", that the Vietnamese people sacrificed their children (infant babies) by laying them out in the open with a frag under them with no safety pin in place so when pick the child up it's over for them or tied a string o the wrist and safety pin so when the small child raise their arms to be picked up, death & or dismemberment was the thank you for caring. Nice right?
Back to the flag, & the miss treatment of it today. The good Lord only knows the different excuses they come up with from "freedom of speech", to, "It's their right as an American", to desecrate the flag in any manner they see fit, because they are Americans". From what the police officer told me as long as it's not my flag and is theirs, he can't do [squat] about it.
Was I upset, like you would never believe. The funny thing (excuse the expression "funny" or wording), because I seen nor see no hummer in this matter, "What so ever"...

I believed I had everything planned out when I seen this crap going on in the news.
( I thought, Its the stuff you only see on the news, no one in your area would do something that low, it just doesn't happen.)
You know, I sat there like some type of "armchair quarterback" I thought I had it all mapped out; I would laugh at them, Tell them to mess up more of them to stimulate the economy & all that. After all the President and his wife at the time appeared to be goofing around during the playing of the 'National Anthem', no salute, no had over their hearts from himself or his wife? The First Lady & the Commander and Chief, I can say one thing, "I am so glad my grandfathers weren't around to see that or me when I got a first hand dose of this". I was left standing there like some type of Mental Midget! LOL, all that thinking, telling myself what I'd do went right out the window. Flabbier- gassed doesn't come close. I don't think I could have messed up our language more if I studied to do so. Imagine every four letter word you and three people next to you knowing all run into one word and blabbed out as one, (funny now but not at the time), all I could do is shake, out of anger & disbelief. I must have been a sight! They was doing that in front of me, a young officer, (Indiana State Trooper), took me from the area (nicely), no cuffs or any of that & he pointed out his concern for my health :) If they wanted a reaction from someone I'd say they got it from me. It hit like a 120lb hay bail from the top of the barn. I couldn't get back to MO. fast enough in total disbelief that them kids really did that and it was legal too. they laid down two storm flags and walked in an oval type thing chanting something about, "Oil, War and something else". The only reason I was going in their area was to let them know they shouldn't allow the flag to touch the ground.

My opinion, sir, is that they're spoiled and have not ever learned to appreciate this great country. Maybe some time in the military? Maybe a tour to see what it's like in other (third-world) countries? I'll tell ya, I've been around the world with the military and I've seen real poverty, real hunger. It makes me soooo glad to have hit the birth-country lottery and to have been born in the USA. I think just a small dose of that would snap a person's head around.

Your suggestion for those to spend some time in the military is a great one. I really think that everyone should do the minimum of 2 yrs. I know a lot of people will disagree and back in the day, I might've, but I also know teens that could have changed for the better had they had some discipline shoved into their lives.

We have created a culture of ignorance in the United States. It is hard to appreciate what we have when there is no basis upon which to compare it too. We are resting on the laurels of past victories and still pretend to be contenders on a global scale even as our per capita production continues to fall behind other countries.

We are no longer the best, and because we refuse to admit that, we can't correct it.
