Can you go from the Green to Gold Active Duty Option program to Warrant Officer Flight Training school?

I have a passing SIFT score (48) and have another year until I would commission.

I honestly don't think you are in a position to drop a warrant packet for flight midway through a commissioning program.

LTC Jason Mackay - Roger sir, my contract obligates me to commission. I was just trying to plan for the unlikely event I do not receive aviation as my branch, given my SIFT score and the decision to ADSO for the branch. I have heard of commissioned officers renouncing their commission in order to go to warrant officer flight training.

SSG (Join to see) - I have seen aviation Officers at O3 revert to CW2 so they can keep flying. There is a special regulatory method reserved just for that. I can't say I have seen a non-flight officer resign (not renounce) their commission to accept a flight warrant appointment. Only thing kind of like that is newly commissioned officers applying to compete for CID Special Investigator program.
Recommend you call the Warrant Officer Recruiter and have them do some research to see I found it is possible. Once you resign you are on a slippery slope that really limits any reentry options.

Stick with the route to commissioning. If you want to fly, try for assignment to Army Aviation after commissioning. I've heard this is difficult, but put in the effort to try for the assignment to flight school. In the long run, life as an officer provides more pay and better opportunities to lead than that of an Aviation Warrant. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to always fly as much as you might want. As an alternative, look into inter-Service commissioning into the Air Force or Navy to attend their pilot training program. I'm not sure how firmly the Army has you locked in when you're in G-to-G.

Out of curiosity, what made you pursue AD G2G as opposed to WOFT? Going the WOFT route seems like it would have gotten you to your goal of flying more quickly and without the uncertainty of knowing whether or not you would receive Aviation as your branch.

Hey SFC (R) Boyd, I wanted to further my education and green to gold is an excellent option in doing that. That is the main reason I chose green to gold over WOFT. I was mainly curious of the various paths enlisted and officers alike have taken to pursue flight school. I dont see any issue with branching aviation in ROTC after passing the SIFT and getting the flight physical done, I just wanted to learn about some of the different paths others have taken.
