I was terminated from my position after 20 years of employment based on an Affordable Care Act review in the summer of 2013 as businesses were grappling with how to meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. I do not fault my previous company for this. My service-connected and other disabilities made it generally unsafe for me to drive to and from work and impacted my ability to work.
[My original question exceeded the 140 character limit]
Original question was trying to get information about how many of us were unemployed, not collecting unemployment insurance and not part of unemployment statistics?

I have been unemployed since August 31, 2013 and have never drawn unemployment insurance. I am drawing VA disability.

LTC Stephen F., I am not totally sure on your status, were you terminate before the employer didn't want to pay for health care insurance even though you have VA benefits?

Same here, was retired June of 2014. Not sure if I would even qualify and not worried about it cause my retirement/disability pay is enough at the moment.

SSG (ret) William Martin, SPC David S., the VA rated me at service disabled for the bulk of my disability in 2008 or so but didn't begin paying me any compensation until 2010. I was instructed to work primarily from home by my director in 2009 because of my limitations including medications. Prior to that I had worked primarily onsite in government - usually military facilities. My company conducted an assessment prior to Affordable care Act implementation. There was not sufficient workload to keep me gainfully employed. I was told that if work became available I could be reemployed quickly.

CPL Brian Clouser thank for your service to this nation. I am sorry to learn you had so much difficulty with the government to recognize your eligibility. I am glad that they seem to both be providing the benefits they should to you.

I was in a Safety Related career with the a major government contractor that required medical certifications. I developed disqualifying medical conditions due to my exposure to Agent Orange when I was in Vietnam, and was forced to quit my position. If it wasn't for my VA Disability Check I would have serious financial concerns.

Sgt Jay Jones, thank you for your service to this nation. I am sorry to learn that you were also terminated from your position based on health issues. I am glad that the VA has rated you, hopefully sufficiently, and is providing disability income. Personably, I was glad to see that the cost of living increase approved last December hit my income this month.
