As an 11X about to start OSUT, I was wondering what the process looks like/realistic timeline of submitting a packet for OCS once I have gotten to my unit?

There's an OCS board every year. Once you get to your unit start talking to your leadership about your goal. It will require several letters of recommendation from various levels of your chain of command. I would expect to be at your unit at least a year or two before that happens.

Let me state the obvious though. What will take the longest is your education. If you're a PFC then you don't have a bachelor degree already. If you have your bachelor degree then your recruiter messed up with your rank. You won't be eligible to apply for OCS until after you have your degree complete

I appreciate it! You would be correct in the degree portion. Thankfully I’m only a handful of credits short so I plan on knocking that out ASAP as time allows once I get to my unit.

SFC Boyd gives sound advice as he always does :) You need to be a stud of a soldier. You need to impress your leaders so they will support your endeavor for OCS. You need to come close to maxing the PT test. What is your GPA now? You don't need to open your big mouth and brag about OCS. Some people will dislike you if you take that tack. You should also lay down on a couch and brainstorm why you want to become a US Army Officer. That will help you:

- Articulate your thoughts for the interviews for letters or recommendations.
- Write a one page essay on that very topic.
- It might be a jumping off point to refine why u want to be an officer.

I suggest you come up with 5 bullets. If you want to share them now or later, it is up to you.

You’ve got some great facts and advice below. I’d add that you need to learn how to be a follower before becoming a leader. Kick ass in OSUT. Max PT and the range. Be humble. Keep your head down, your mouth shut, and your eyes and ears open. Be an information sponge. Develop your reading, writing and critical thinking skills. Good luck.
