It started in 1988 when I was Master at Arms to Chief of Staff Commander Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Washington, DC and I am sad to say that I missed it.

I remember reading about the Marine in the picture a couple of years ago. He stood and held that salute FOR HOURS until the entire Rolling Thunder group passed by.
