It seems to be a problem with all civilians, they don't seem to understand, that you do what you have to do to survive. If that means killing a child who is running at you with grenades, then so be it. It won't be something you will ever forget. Your conscience will probably nag at you until your dying day.
But, Vietnam vets, as Americans, weren't using children as bombs, just defending from them.
I , personally hold no ill will to any Vet, who had to do what ever he could to survive.
I personally was born at the end of Vietnam, but I heard stories from various people who were there, one of the guys was the one who went in to collect corpses. He had some gruesome stories.

Coming home from Viet Nam was doubly awkward. Half the people looked at us like monsters just for having gone there. One time we cleared out a nightclub just by walking in; when they saw our haircuts they just left.

Once I had a young boy ask me if I had killed anyone overseas. I respectfully told the young boy that it isn't a question you should ask people as that question is incredibly awkward.

I hate that question with a passion. In a way it's a loaded question. If you answer yes then they look at you like a monster if you answer no, they think you are somehow less of a Soldier. I usually just glare at them when they ask me lol

SGT David T. ,

I had excused the boy, as being to wet behind the ears, and respectfully advised the kid not to ask people that.

A kid I am more understanding with, it's the adults that should know better.
