If you went to use this at CIF for turning in your gear, a message would come up on the screen everytime that just says, "NOT CLEAN ENOUGH! STATEMENT OF CHARGES!"

Sir, is funny but true and the worst example is buying brand new equipment to turn in and the come to find out, is going to the trash. Is a waste of money sometimes.

SSG Padilla, I mostly agree especially since that is a total waste. I think a worse one is when you receive a brand new item, STILL in the original bag/wrapping, then when you go to turn it in STILL in the original wrapping because you NEVER EVER used it, they say you have to clean it. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!! yes, true story.

True story! Had a Soldier need to replace his gortex, which he did by purchasing a new one from clothing and sales, taking it directly to CIF still on the hangar with the tags/UPC, get kicked back, he left, took the tags off and they then accepted it! What?!?

Not surprised in the least. Unskilled workers demanding higher wages than many with degrees and skills are making? I would replace them all too.

Have to get rid of the dissenting opinions before they revolt.

Anyone who understands business in today's Post-Modernism world had to see this coming. When you raise wages for a job like fast-food worker, you are forcing the hand of management to do two things: increase profits or cut costs.  Since the sale of fast-food has leveled out in most areas and even decreased in others, cost cutting is the only option.

While its sad to see more people out of work, I do find it a bit amusing that those who had these jobs were generally unskilled and were paid an unskilled wage. When unskilled, you are generally less educated and therefore make poor decisions. Like holding rallies to demand higher wages.

Its one of those ironies in life that the lack of education or skills led them to protest themseleves right out of a job.

I think as time goes on and technology continues to advance, basic non and low level skilled jobs will become things of the past.
People will have to begin to compete with technology in order to remain a valuable resource to business. We've been doing it for years.
Farmers do it. Should I pay 200 people at the airport to open and inspect everyone's bags or should I use 3 x ray machines?
People have to start investing in themselves and their education.

I do believe everyone should educate themselves as much as possible. Ignorance helps no one. Technology is replacing people and the population of Earth continues to grow. This will lead to very high unemployment. At the risk of sounding Socialist, Would it be more advantageous to lower wages and put more people to work? Just my thoughts.

This is a major reason we need innovative employment opportunities. Basic wage jobs will be a thing of the past in the very near future. Convenience stores now have the self-check out kiosks as well...

What gets lost in all of this is the McDonalds you see is not corporate, it is a franchise.  The franchisee has to pay premium prices to the corporation, has to maintain their store, has to pay taxes on the land that they deed to the corporation (they still own the store, but the corporation owns the land under it AFTER the original franchisee bought it).  They have to pay a premium for the cups, bags, meat, bread, machines, etc. all the while charging a corporate set price on the food.  Their margins are not very big on profit.  The employees do not work for the corporation, they work for the franchisee.  If a person is making this their career, they will not be making minimum wage.  
BTW, do you want that dollar menu to be changed to the $5 menu?  That is what will happen.  When people stop coming to that store to buy stuff, where are all those jobs going to go.  They are cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

If I was a business owner and had 10 employees and was forced to pay them 5 or more dollars to meet minimum wage here is what I would do. I'm not going to raise the price of my product because I have to take care of the customer, I mean Im in business to make money, not correct social justices. Secondly, I would fire the 5 least contribuiting employees and tell the others to make it happen.<div><br></div><div>All these liberal viewpoints who cry it isn't fair, explain to me how you would do it while maximizing profit and keeping your customers from paying more.</div>

So, you sacrifice customer service and employee morale for maximized profits?
Not to mention, you more than likely just put 5 people in the unemployment line and on food stamps. No disrespect is intended in my comments SGM, I'm just throwing my perspective out there.

Fair seems to be a rare thing these days, no matter what side of the fence you call home.

If I raise prices, lose customers then all 10 could lose their job. I go into business to make a profit. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a few employees to keep your business afloat. Look at Ford. In 2008 they did not take a government bailout, laid off I think 20K employees, streamlined their product line and now are the most successful American car manufacturer in America. Their product got better. Also,I believe morale wouldn't be too low considering the ones that didn't get laid off still have a job.

This is the future we are heading for.&nbsp; If people are not willing to view those entry level jobs as starting points then companies will figure out a way to automate them.&nbsp; Then they can put 5 order kiosks in place and pay one technical expert to be on call to repair them if they break at a cost of two part time employees rather than keeping five part time employees there waiting on customers to come in and order.

SFC,

We are headed in this direction regardless of how these jobs are viewed. The #1 priority of big business (or any busy actually) is to increase profits by at least 10% over the previous years profits. If more and more jobs become automated and the population continues to grow...What happens next?

The link I pasted below shows a good representation of the intent of the minimum wage in my opinion. I know when I was in high school 20 some years ago I had a crappy minimum wage job. Do you know what I did to earn more money. Got a second crappy minimum wage job. I did not ask for more pay!! It motivated me to get out of the rut and make something of myself!

I actually commented on that discussion as well, it was a strange collection of opinions on that one I must say, but interesting as well. No animosity taken as it was posted with humor intended, it is just that some weren't able to see that or DV'ed in secrecy at the time due to lack of intestinal fortitude until called on it ;) LOL
