Note: Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) is not a veteran.

Apparently frustrated with the slow pace of the investigation, Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) has written to McDonald to ask what he is doing to change the practices Frye brought to light, among them the widespread use of purchase cards — usually meant as a convenience for minor purchases of up to $3,000 but used routinely to buy billions of dollars worth of medical supplies without contracts.

“Prior to your confirmation, you pledged to me that you would clean up the VA,” Grassley wrote to McDonald on June 19. “Unfortunately, time and again, news reports highlight instances that illustrate a continuing culture of chaos at the VA that fails our veterans.”

It is my opinion that the VA problems are so deep and wide, that one person can't fix it.

Sir,
I agree. However, if the person at the top would establish a system of accountability it would go a long way in that organization.

I agree to a certain extent, however VA managers have a penchant for lying. Some hospital directors have turned their hospitals into empires which trickles down. Now you have managers who don't follow all laws, regulations, and rules. Therefore, the VA becomes the enemy to the veterans and employees.

My wife worked for a VA hospital and underwent a heart procedure and was fired for having too much time off. I was really pissed when the Deputy Director called and said firing her was the appropriate thing to do. Well we hired an attorney and won.

While the compensation and care side have horrible backlogs and almost no organization, coupled with an atmosphere of CYA at the expense of what's right, I can say the GI Bill side seems to be very smooth and customer friendly (knock on wood).

Sadly, it appears 'culture of chaos’ seems totally appropriate. IF there was a stronger word one could use, then that word would be appropriate.

I am glad you are able to connect with an excellent facility SPC Leisel Luman but this proves they care provide excellent care. They are able to do it for you, why can't they do this across the board?

Train wreck is correct. When my world fell apart I was unemoyable, evicted, car repossessed, financially and emotionally devastated. It took three years of fighting the VA losing my claim, re-dating it, outsourcing it, denying it and appealing fraudulent C&P exams. I know why the suicide and incarceration rate is so high among Vets. I don't think I could have or would have the strength to go on except for the fact that I had a child who needed me to fight. My heart is broken and I am irate about how vets are being treated. The BONUSES they are getting for denying, re-dating or disappearing claims is BLOOD MONEY!!!

VA St. Petersburg provides excellent medical care ( CW Bill Young is the new name). The train Wreck, Fraud and failure to provide support was in the claimes/appeals/C&P aspect of VA. All my issues have been resolved at this point. When I was going through it there seamed to me no light at the end of the dismissal tunnel. I'm rebuilding my life. I want to help people along the way.
