I did my 4 on active and have been in USAR for over 3 years now. I signed up for USAR before I ets'd and been attempting to make this work. But so far it has been going terribly for me professionally and emotionally. I haven’t even gone to MOSQ school and they expect me to go with like 6 months left on my contract? I really was hoping they’d send me before I ETS’d but they didn’t instead they are sending me at the end. I have a job and responsibilities now and I am getting sick of asking my boss to take days/time off to do reserve stuff.. I am absolutely done being stuck as a specialist because I am not MOSQ/non promotable having to deal with reservist puffed up people…

If you are close (within 6 months) of your ETS date, it may be faster to ETS than do the IRR request. Because you contacted to complete your 4 year service obligation in the USAR, you would only be able to request a voluntary IRR transfer - this has to get approved at every level of your chain of command and usually takes months to process.

The packet is relatively simple: 4651, Soldier Statement (why you want to leave), chain of command recommendation (usually 4187), exit counseling from commander and exit counseling from a career counselor.

You could look at transfering to another unit that has a battle assembly schedule that would work better with your job.

I'm about 9 months out. And it's just the people that are getting to me. I'm seriously done hearing the E-5 SGT reserve Vietnam war AT war story or their desire to think I am new guy in the army on their first day despite I clearly state that I am not new and I did combat arms already and no I don't want to hear your Vietnam war story about that one time you drove a humvee.. I was genuinely hoping to make e5 when I hit the reserves since I had BLC but the mos school..

The leaving work to go do lhi or go do some random midweek training really doesn't work out for me.. maybe if I worked in a military friendly town but I don't...

LHI appointments are an inconvience, but it shouldn't be all the time - you should have a yearly PHA and dental appointment.
As to midweek training... are you being told to do something? Are you being paid? Does it have to happen during your work day?
Don't judge all reserve units based on your 1 bad experience. There are good units and commands that will work with your civilian employment schedule.
No path you choose will be a quick (<30 days) turn around - paperwork takes time and sometimes longer because of signature requirements.
1. RST with another unit - don't do Army things during the week unless its after your civilian work hours, you are on military orders, or you have an approved RST to get paid.
2. Transfer to another reserve unit with a better drill schedule.
3. Submit for voluntary IRR transfer
4. Deal with your situation for another 8 months and drop your ETS packet

Got to your S1, put in the paper work and go from there. You say you only go 9 months to go, well one way or another you will do the 9 months. When I went IRR, I was there one month, gone the next. Just make sure you got all your ducks in a row.
