I recently was promoted to Sergeant, but PCS'ed from my unit 35 days after to my next duty assignment. Between transit time and leave before I report, will it all just be Unrated Time? Since I will have a total of 51 days when I get there will it just be two months Unrated?

WO1 (Join to see), COL Charles Williams is absolutely spot on! As far as when the report is due, you can expect a couple things for your first report, there should be two "non-rated codes" the I code covers your intransit leave, the Q code covers that your rater was not qualified to rate you. You will see 10 months rated if the first report is an annual report. Going back to COL Charles Williams input, his advice is what will write the report. You accomplishing your mission and taking care of Soldiers is the basic responsibility of a Soldier and will be what is written about on your report. Your challenge is to know and understand the new NCOER coming out in January as it will be different than what we use today. Great question.

Thank you for input CSM. I take advice from any of my seniors to heart and try to implement it to the best of my ability with the situations I face. With the changes to the NCOERs coming in January it is going to be a game changer for sure. I took the block of instruction my BN put out about a month ago, and it looked like to me it was going to be some very good changes that will help overall. I am not as well educated with the current system due to only really receiving training on it during WLC which was about 2 years ago for me. My SGLs taught us lot of great information, but when it came to NCOERs they more or less focused on the dues and don't, which the big sticking point they had was Unrated time, lack of counselings and incorrect data input. I just want to educate myself the best I can, and when it came to this after looking over AR 623-3 I got a little bit more knowledge, but it still left some question for me.

The codes are not on every first, report, based on your situation you described above, you'd have a couple codes in there to cover that time before you new duty station.

I can only say this... If you worry about your NCOERS/OERS, you will never make it. Focus on doing your best, living Army Values and the NCO creed, and all will be OK. If you do your best, you get noticed. If you worry about your reports, you will also get noticed. WO1 (Join to see)
