Are there any Surgical Flight Nurses who can tell me about their job?

I have not actually flown, however, I interfaced with the flight nurses quite a bit when I was doing Aeromedical Staging in Ramstein AB Germany at the beginning of OEF/OIF.  Their primary responsibility is configuration of the aircraft for the upcoming mission.  They are the ones to ensure that there are enough litter positions and seat positions for all patients and medical/non-medical attendants.  The next thing that they are responsible for is in-flight patient care.  In most cases, this will be to ensure pain is controlled.  There is truly very little care that can be done in the air, but any care that is done must also be documented.  The flight nurse is NOT responsible for any critical care patients....in most cases those will have a CCAT team (Critical Care Air Transport team).  The flight nurses will be the liaison between the air crew flying the airplane and the medical needs of the patients.  There are some other roles that Flight Nurses play, but those are secondary and mostly administrative in nature revolving around the planning and coordination of the missions.  There is another user on Rally Point, he is Army now, but was an AF Nurse...and one tour was Flight Nurse.  Try sending a message to Maj Alvin Gibbons....he may be able to help (although I don't know how often he is on here...).  Tell him Chris sent you...
