Tons of times, if you consider more work a "new opportunity". It is called "punishment for superior performance".

When people know they can rely on you to get things done and get them done right, then they come to you with what they need to get done.

100%. I have a bit of experience with that.

As consequence for my devotion to EO work as the company EO rep I was made the BN EO rep. Then, when our BDE EO rep had to deploy and had to assign a replacement, he mentioned my name to the Colonel. As the BDE EO rep, I got to sit in on DIV meetings and was even involved in a panel in 2021 when the Army did a stand-down for global extremism training.

All well and good for a junior Officer you say. Sure, but the "punishment for superior performance" comes in play when you realize that while I was doing all this wonderful work in EO land, my actual job was to care for and train the 63 Soldiers in my platoon while also serving the whims of a very needy commander. There was never enough time to do both very well.

1LT (Join to see) - A perfect example. The next thing to learn is how to delegate which, I admit, I was never really good at. Though I have found that too is a common trait of those that experience punishment for superior performance.

Luck is the residue of hard work. I have always had that privilege. IN the USMC I had 4 meritorious masts and one meritorious promotion. Temp work always resulted in full time work. IN my Glazing career, I always worked on the current project, for the next project and was called upon, by name, by contractors, for upcoming projects. If any OT was available, I always got it.
