Hello all. Recently I have been approved to attempt reclassification to the MOS 35L. I have a desire to fill an available CISAC class seat this August 28, 2023. My Deros however, is March 14, 2024. From my understanding in order to get seated into this class I would need to Curtail my DEROS date. Mind you I have already completed my 2/3rds tour obligation OCONUS and have crossed off that prerequisite in station time. How do I go about facilitating this process. My s1 wasn't much help when I asked how to go about it. Can someone please shed some light for me in this regard?

Read chapter 5 of AR 614-30 on Curtailment of overseas assignments for the complete process, but bottom line is that a request will go up to HQDA for approval/denial.
In order to have the request go up, you'll have to convince your first O6 that you should return and their office will initiate the request to HQDA to curtail your assignment.
That's the process.
What's the likelihood in your situation (curtail your DEROS in order to attend schooling)? Not very.
If there were some Army Requirement that you would be filling such as a critical shortage of CI agents that they had to fill, then it might be a different likelihood. If you fell into any of the "commander's discretion" categories in the AR, it might be a different likelihood.
Don't take this the wrong way, but you're still very much in the "round peg for the round hole" part of your career. Your desire to attend an earlier class really doesn't carry any weight to HRC's enlisted branch.

S-1, fill out 4187 requesting it. Are you on a unsponsored tour? If so, state that the move cost less than a command sponsored tour with family. When would the next class seat after the one you have your sights on? PCS with the school en route would save money. Saving money is the theme.. Good luck

So apparently 4187's are no longer a thing. Everything is done through IPPSA. I'm still learning how to navigate it. The next available class seat after the one I'm seeking would be September 2, 2023. The whole thing by default would be a TDY en route by the way
