Why would it be good for the Army's Modular Handgun System but not the M9?

LCDR (Join to see) That is a good question. I am former Soldier, and Military Policeman, and have watched this through the years, in and out of the Army. I know we need focus on capability, NOT focusing on having a pistol that fits with NATO. How if NATO wants to fit they use what we use. We need:
1. Durable, and simple.
2. 1st Hit Knock Down power, or at list with a double tap - like the 45...
3. Large Magazine.
4. Safe.
I am not a gun expert, but there are many, and hopefully DOD is consulting with them. I am also not sure the combat pistol (PDW) and the law enforcement gun need to be same.

Basically speaking it disintegrates upon first impact so in the case of LEO (who let lose a barrage every time they pull their weapon) this feature cuts down on collateral damage
You have a wider variety of rounds to better address your threat
There are lots of COTS rounds out there
I have it for all of my Handguns and luckily my last stint on active duty we owned EOD assets that were considered “special forces” although I hold a sticker definition of that term. The advantage was we could order and carry just about what we wanted. Yet, in an operational sense I have no data to support my theory.

I recall there is service life, dirt in open slide, and safety on slide issues with the M9. So cartridge aside, the question becomes do you buy more M9s and accept the above or move on? I'd suspect the result will be some 40 variation for more power while keeping the width of a double stack magazine reasonable. It will be interesting to see how the "modular" can help with small hands.
