Do we place too much emphasis on popularity within society and politics?

Personally, I hate the fact that politicians use popularity and so-called social and Hollywood figures to gain an advantage in their favor amongst the American people just for potential votes. I guess it is our faults because Americans hold these so-called social and Hollywood figures in such high regard and importance. What ever happened about getting out and talking to the common people, finding important issues and coming up with strategies to make the United States a better place to live and grow?

They do talk to the "common" people...it's just their version of the "common" people. I don't think any of us on here can afford those $1000 dinner meet and greets that to them are "regular" and "common" donations. None of us on here are billionaires that can afford to loose a million or two in order to "buy" the candidate we want. lastly I haven't seen or heard of a presidential candidate or a congressman running for office ever go to a trailer park or the ghetto's and have a one on one with anybody there. But they represent the core of America right? Can't be true when most of America is working class or poor.

SSG Warren Swan, I agree with your comments and in my opinion, the middle class is probably the majority of Americans followed closely by the poor or lower class, I don't know the proper term now to use these days, I don't want to offend anyone because that is not my intent.

Talking to common folk such as myself means going into the hood. I don't see that happening.
