CW3 (Join to see), and one month and a few days later (17 September 1908), Orville crashed an airplane at Fort Myer with Army Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge aboard. Unfortunately, Selfridge was killed, thus becoming the first fatality in a powered airplane.

Is that the crash where one of the brothers was severely injured? There were one or two very serious accidents (though the Wrights were comparatively lucky as aviation pioneers; parachutes, balloons, unpowered aircraft all visited tragedies on the first aviators.).

Indeed, SPC(P) Mark Newman, the accounts say that Orville was severely injured, to include a broken hip.
