What awards did you earn that were uncommon - something you don't see very often on someone else's uniform?
I have three that fit the subject.
1) Republic of China Rough Terrain Parachutist Badge. Earned while deployed in the Republic of China with ROC Special Forces Team.
2) Royal Laotion Parachutist Badge. Earned while deployed in Laos supporting Hmoung Military Forces.
3) Excellence in Competition - Pistol. Earned while on a pistol team in the 25th Infantry Division.

It's not a device or badge but I completed the Animal Packing course at Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport Ca. It was a trip having to take month long course on how to use Pack Animals and go hiking up those monster hills.

1SG(P) Dean Mcbride (MPER) (SPHR) - It's quite the experience but pretty much any pipeline you attend at MWTC is. They have Summer and Winter formal training packages and they also throw together Unit Training packages that are more Mission specific for where they may be going. They also have some unique training like high altitude Medicine, Mountain Sniper, Animal Packing and a few others. It's hard training but it's absolutely beautiful up there and the staff are amazing. True professionals. Top Tier outdoorsman. The kind of guys that are late to a morning brief because they shot an Elk or Deer off their back porch drinking their morning coffee and had to field dress it before they came in. It's a badge of honor grabbing a beer or burger after a training evolution at the bar on base there named the Pickel Chalet.

Probably not one of the easiest assignments you had in your career...

1SG(P) Dean Mcbride (MPER) (SPHR) - Fortunately I only had to escort two individuals to the Brig during my active duty days in the Corps. Neither caused any problems and cooperated completely with me and my chaser partner.

Does a letter of commendation from a Fijian Colonel count? Printed in color on A4 paper and laminated, no less, he provided me with two copies. Yes, I had it scanned into my file, just to honor his effort. No, the Army didn't give a shit.

COL David Turk - I've only gotten that question 200 times, lol. No relation. I actually think it's bizarre, as uncommon as the name is, to ask that in relation to a lowly 1 star.

LTC Matthew Schlosser - thanks for responding. We were in the same EOBC (3-77) at Fort Belvoir. One of two of my classmates that came to my wedding at the base chapel right after graduation and shipping out to Germany. I knew he would do well, and apparently he did.

COL David Turk - Well, if you knew the guy personally, it makes a lot more sense to ask that question, and I know what you mean. I'm a "Japan" flavored foreign area officer. They mint about 4-5 of us per year, one of whom is likely to make O-6. I looked around at my year group and instantly recognized the one in my cohort. In fact, she could be one of the extremely rare FAOs to make GO. There are only three O-7 billets for FAOs worldwide.
