This is true. It's no different then the early scientists working with X-rays and the radiation from it. We actually had consumer X-ray units in shoe stores so you could see how well your feet fit your shoes!

SGT Mark Stevens, I remember those! It was Buster Brown shoe stores. There was very little shielding and kids used to like to play on them.

When X-rays were given in shoe stores
History contains many examples of medical functions performed by frighteningly unqualified people. Barbers once were also dentists. Whoever was the oldest lady in the village was also a midwife. And x-rays were shot through children's feet - by shoe store attendants.
