Vetnam Fun Fact - Patrolling Route 13 was one of the "fun" jobs of the 1st Div

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARVN paratroopers and several U.S. advisers parachute into the Ben Cat area, 20 miles north of Saigon.
This was the first major parachute assault of the war by the South Vietnamese.
Although they failed to make contact with the enemy, they achieved their goal of driving the Viet Cong away from Route 13 (running between Saigon and the Cambodian border) at least temporarily.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
On a lighter note
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Columnist Joseph Alsop said in the Washington Post said that, with the U.S. military build-up in South Vietnam, "at last there is light at the end of the tunnel."

I guess he was right .. it did only last another 10 years...

Fifty years ago I went PCS from Hanscom Field, MA to Lowry AFB, CO however 52 years ago in 1968 I was in Vietnam where I remain until early 1969. Most of the time was spent with 366th SPS, at Da Nang , RVN after three months with 12th SPS, at Cam Ranh Bay, RVN . 50 years ago also in 1970 I had reenlisted in the Air Force for another Four years and also had made SSgt.
