It is possible but not easy. First, you would have to get a conditional release from the Army Reserve. They Guard and the Reserve are two different organizations. Keep in mind that this is a request. They can deny it. If you have a good reason they may look favorably on it but if you just don't like your job then they may just tell you no. If they do a release then you can talk to the Guard. Changing MOS's in the Guard is not hard but there has to be the right scenario. If you want to be 11B and that state is overstrength on them you may not get it. Or even if they have that MOS available in that state. Every state has different units. Some don't even have some MOSs. If you wanted to be on a flight crew then you have to make sure they even have that type of unit there.

1LT Rosa really hit the nail on the head with this. If the drive is what bothers you the most, they will likely just tell you to find a Reserve center that is closer to you and switch units. If you command isn't really fond of letting soldiers go, you will probably need a more solid reason since the unit can easily compensate with up to $300 for travel expenses and Lodging-in-kind. There is more information in AR 140-10, which has to do with unit assignments, attachments, and transfers.

I am currently trying to do a conditional release, and let me tell you, it can take up to a year to let you go. Stay on top of that conditional release man, because those are really on the bottom of the priority list for people on top. Good luck man

If you are assigned to the unit you originally joined, and live in the same location you did when you enlisted, it will be difficult to claim a hardship because it's exactly what you bargained for. If you'd joined the Guard first in that situation, you'd have likely signed a commuting distance waiver. Your command has broad discretion to allow this, but we all have a duty to be good stewards of the government's money, and that includes getting the value for the money we spent training you to do the job you and the government agreed you'd do. I can't speak for the Reserves, but in the Guard we would look for another Guard unit first to transfer you into, and you should expect to be told rather than get to choose your new job.

The Army reserve, for some reason I have never understood, typically let’s their people transfer the easiest of all services I have dealt with. You will want to come up with several solid reasons to strengthen your request. The guard also has different educational benefits that may factor into your decision as well as the commute. Promotion opportunities, the MOS you are looking at and family availability are all reasons I have seen. Best of luck.

Sir ,
I would like you ask you a question.
I recently got my Conditional Release from ARNG and my PMOS is 92w but my Recruiter picked up this MOS for me. Now I am switching to the Active Duty but I want to change my MOS because I have 3 languages speaking which is 35P (Linguist) job that I want to reclass.
92w is currently shows that (in/out) call for this MOS (N/Y ) so when I go to the MEPS will I get an opportunity to request a change of MOS or not ? Thank you Sir.

Possibly. But, you will need to speak with your USAR recruiter and a Guard recruiter for a solid answer

I know it is a lot easier for reserve to go active just because they are both controlled by federal. The National Guard is governed by the state.
