I first became interested in this when in 2000, Al Gore sued to have the military overseas votes not count because there was no postage stamp. The rational was that most military were voting for Republicans... If you were in during the Clinton years, you might agree with that.

But this seems like disregard on steroids and the fact is we don't have a solid voting block.

Why would they care about the military vote? Active duty represent less than 1% of the potential voting population and veterans less than 10%. We simply do not have enough numbers to really be a factor.

Which is why you seldom hear Trump talk about military and veteran issues, and when he does its just vague chatter to invoke applause without any real substance. HRC doesn't even bother because she knows military and veteran issues are not relevant to her voting block.

I think maybe the solution is for us to start running for office in our State or local communities Sir.

Maybe that's how we get our voice out there, it seems like it's a good starting platform, we have a retired COL running for office where I'm at seems to have allowed her to get her voice out there more than once.

If expect a commander to care, I expect their leaders to care. We're just an extension of foreign policy (DIME). There are a lot of minority voting blocks getting a lot of attention, I didn't even know that there was such a thing as trans until a few months ago... now everybody wants the trans vote.

I'm just sitting here trying to think when the last time a Presidential candidate cared about ANYONE other than themselves. They preach to the choir just to get the votes, while at the same time not giving two hoots about the voter.

yes, but that's supposed to be their little secret... I'm talking about blatantly ignoring a popular (but very small) and vocal voting block.

Ronald Reagan (RIP) was truly a friend to the US Military. He brought us back from Carter's drawdown, which enabled us to achieve such a quick and decisive victory in Desert Storm.

George H.W. Bush was also very supportive of the US Military.

I think that would be because President Reagan and President H.W. Bush are both Veterans so they have a respect that a non-service member would not or that they understand where as those that have not served can not or at least not completely. Even President Bush who as I recall was Air Guard still visits troops in the hospital. I think maybe more of us need to take a chance and perhaps run for office in our communities.

I think one politician running does not think that she has to play by the rules and most likely thinks that learning the rules is beneath her. That person may care about the military vote, but she does not care about the military voter.

She doesn't need or care about the military vote, SGT William Howell, and in fact, has tremendous disdain for the military. She'll do nothing to cultivate the military.

LTC Stephen C. I disagree. She will eat ass for a vote. She will lie, steal, or cheat to become President. Now like all dems, she will have selected memory just as soon as she wins.
