Just kidding .. but interesting training news
Camp Bullis has all the fun...
Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division will parachute into Camp Bullis late Tuesday night as part of an ongoing exercise that has prompted alarm, anger and suspicion among some conspiracy theorists.
The U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s sprawling “Jade Helm 15” exercise started last month with operations across the country, one of them in Bastrop.
It continues with an ambitious airborne infantry jump and mock airfield assault on the Army training range in Northwest Bexar County.
“Tonight's airborne operation will consist of nearly 550 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division who will link up with U.S. Special Operations Forces on the ground,” said Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria, an Army Special Operations Command spokesman. “This training exercise is a first for U.S. Army Special Operations Command in regard to its scope and scale.”
The command’s “unconventional warfare exercise” will see an Army Special Forces operational detachment work with paratroopers from the Fort Bragg, North Carolina-based airborne division, famed for its heroics during the invasion of Europe.
Conspiracy theorists claimed Jade Helm 15, which began in mid-July, would lead to citizens being jailed in converted private prisons or vacant Wal-Mart stores, but military officials have scoffed at those fears and no such incidents have been reported.
