I am extremely motivated and want to deploy. I decided to join the Guard to knock out my degree as soon as possible. I also speak Arabic.

Thank you for any info!

I'm with Joe. A private wanting to deploy out of basic seems immature. Afghanistan is not Call of Duty. The private should work on bettering himself as a Soldier for himself and his buddies, and wait for the call. If it comes, then great, I hope he's ready. If it doesn't, then to bad. I know most do not want to be in the military in a time of war, and not get a cool deployment patch. I agree that war will change us all. Well at least the ones that have looked into the eyes of the enemy, and not worth a patch (just my opinion). Yet, someone of us did choose to deliver violence on behalf of our nation's interest. For those of you, I salute you. For others, its not meant to be. Be careful what you wish for.

Thank you. For a moment there I felt as though I had some radical opinion.

SGT Joseph Gunderson - They are just some hard charging NCO's. Nothing wrong with that. Yet, I've been down range a few times and have both seeing and done things that I hope my boys never see. As a leader, its our job to prepare our men, and wait for the call, we don't go volunteer or beg to go. Because as soon as you lose someone, or multiple Soldiers, you will always know that it was your decision that destroyed those families. While I will agree that we all signed up for this. It will never be on my conscience that they died because I had something to proof. They died, because its war and shit happens. I can sleep with that.

They are naive looking for Glory! Most think the mix is a video game, in real world people die. They don't understand true fear, they don't understand in the mix it's winner take all, no second chances. They don't understand committing the ultimate sin haunts you the rest of your life. They don't understand that when they get back the rest of the public doesn't wanna hear it, most don't care. These are things that I personally know!

If it's your units turn then yes. Otherwise no. Unless you go active after your term as a national guardsman.

During your next drill weekend, put on a pair of Vietnam era jungle boots and camo up your face. Then promptly walk into your battalion CSMs office, and scream at the top of your lungs, " Hooooah, ready to depoy sergeants major!" I guarantee you will go somewhere.

Am I guaranteed a deployment as 11B in the National Guard?

Right now I think that aviation, engineers, MPs, and Sustainment commands have the highest frequency.

If you joined as AD, and came to 101st, probably you are getting deploy every two years :D.

You can check on the Tour of Duty website for open slots for deployment and submit a packet to volunteer. If you want to deploy, there should be something available, although 11B is less likely because that isn't the skillset that is currently needed at this phase of our current conflicts.

Unfortunately no. Not even AD is guaranteed one at the moment. But AD will have the best chance.

That's not at all accurate either. There is a patch chart for a reason.

You SPECIFICALLY (as in YOU, an individual) are not guaranteed a deployment, but there are units actively deploying throughout the world to various locations, and if we were on SIPR we could discuss who that is, and where they are going for the next FY.

SFC (Join to see) - Whats not accurate about what I said? I said no one is guaranteed a deployment. I think that's pretty spot on. In 07' if you were an AD 11B you were all but guaranteed to deploy. Now that's not the case. Also AD units (as a whole) are more likely to deploy than NG units. I've known several guys who have been in AD units that have done 2 trips in 4 years I was in one myself, but I've never been in, or heard of a NG unit that had a higher op tempo than 1 deployment every 4 or 5 years. I never said his specific unit wasn't deploying or that he absolutely wasn't going to deploy. I was just giving general advice as to how to get to a warzone as soon as possible.

You made a generalization that just isn't accurate. Like I said, I agree with your point that HE specifically is not guaranteed a deployment. However, I CAN guarantee that units are, and will still be deploying. If he wants to go, he needs to do the legwork and find them.

I think at the end of the day, we are saying the same thing and losing a bit of translation via "interwebz communication".

You may want to check out the HRC (Human Resources Command) Web Site as they used to have an area where you can apply for deployment based on your MOS, Rank and other skills. If I recall these were individual positions so you can see where you would be deploying to and for how long and the duties you would be preforming. I would think having the ability to speak Arab would be a plus! Also I don't believe your assigned Unit can deny you if you apply for one of these positions
