Am I supposed to be receiving BAS while in AIT as MOS-T re-classing to 31B?

I’m just curious if I’m supposed to be receiving BAS while in AIT as Mos-T re-classing to 31B. I’ve gone to finance about my additional pay but I am told the pay is correct. I was hoping that someone could explain to me how BAS works while in TDY. I am a single soldier, I was stationed in Germany and I’m in TDY (currently AIT until I PCs to my next duty station).

You're TDY Enroute and you will receive per diem at the rate allocated for your school. Being that 31B is an IET school, you should simply be eating in the local chow hall using a meal card. If you were being charged for food, that wouldn't be BAS, that would be allocated through per diem and paid to you on the backside of training, or when you do your partial claims every 30 days (as you're supposed to).

You will not get BAS because I’m almost 100% your orders sending you to AIT covers your lodging and meals

Yes I do but according to my LES I’m not receiving meal deductions for the month of October

If you’ve been issued a meal card, you do not suppose to receive BAH. Inform your Cadre so they can get you to the S1 to start meal deductions. SPC (Join to see)

SFC (Join to see) I took care of this with finance. I’m not receiving bah, it’s bas. I’m not currently living in barracks nor am I eating at the dfac.

If you were issued a meal card, you don’t suppose to receive BAS. Not using the meal card is irrelevant if you were issued the meal card. SPC (Join to see)

You have to remember that most school houses are geared towards the green recruit that is either an OSUT or comes directly from BCT. While reclasses and prior service re-enlisting does happen it is not what the Army is geared towards.
As such most are on near lock down from the moment they arrive until they make it through a certain phase and actually allowed to go off post. As such they are marched to and from everywhere, so there is no BK, Chic Fil et, McDonalds etc... it is all chow hall all the time.
So your pay is correct, just run with it, and enjoy the extra if there is any.

According to my LES, I’m not receiving meal deductions for the month of October and I assume it will be the same for November since AIT is about two months long.

SPC (Join to see) Interesting. Well I am not finance, nor a pro at this stuff, but my guess would be that since you are not an IET soldier, but you are at an IET program it is easier or even just SOP to allow you BAS for your food instead of doing the paperwork for a meal card. You have to remember, most AIT soldiers are still not fully active and so they are restricted and regulated more. I was marched everywhere to include the dfac. There was no eating elsewhere.
It may also be part of the privilege of being a reclass. You are an adult, already fully trained, and thus expected to be able to take care of yourself and show up for training accordingly. The rest is on you. My AIT has non IET soldiers who were never seen except for class. They got to drink, party, wear civies, etc. as long as they showed up.
