Am I the only one who takes pillow shopping seriously?

After years of waking up feeling like I got hit by a car, complete with muscle spasms, the inability to turn my head one way or the other, and constant tension headaches, I started taking my pillow shopping much more seriously.

SSG (Join to see) basically what prompted me to care as well. Do you sleep on your side, back or stomach? My back feels better if I sleep on my back but I snore like a freight train...

I started sleeping on my side and back after my back issues worsened. Sleeping on the stomach is horrible for the back.

I have similar issues. If I sleep on my side, I have to have a pillow with just enough height and support to keep my head at the right height, a pillow between my knees, and a pillow in front of me so the top arm doesn't "dangle," which causes some pressure on the shoulder. If not for the pillow in front of my chest, I wake up feeling like I pitched a major league game without warming up the day before.
Normally I sleep on my back with one firm, supportive pillow under my neck (the memory foam kind), and two bigger pillows under my knees, to take pressure off my hips. But boy do I snore.

Haha the question itself is funny, but I actually am very particular about my pillow. I need something that's firm (like my mattress kinda hard too actually). I think this is something of a side effect of sleeping on some really hard surfaces throughout life, but a soft mattress and pillow just feels like mush to me. I've been using a firm memory-foam pillow. I can't remember what it's called but it's about to wear out so I will have to look and go buy the same one again. It's been great.

I'm hoping someone from Bed Bath & Beyond offers us a sweet discount for this. They have the best selection. Wal Mart options are just a waste of time. How long are those memory foam pillows good for?

SGT (Join to see) I've had mine just over 2 years and it went on deployment with me. It probably should have been replaced at about a year or 18 months though.

Last year my wife and I were Black Friday Shopping and stopped in at Value City Furniture...just for walking in we each go a $70 pillow for free. Since I was looking for one anyhow, it worked out.
I have too many creaks and aches anymore to not take pillow shopping easy. If the pillow is comfortable enough, I'll shell out a bunch of money.
I am guilty of ALWAYS forgetting a pillow whenever I go away for training or to the field. Even a small one. Since I started living with my wife (3 years now) I still forget it all the time, but she makes sure that I don't leave without it.

That's awesome. My rucksack had a detachable section that could be used as a pillow - worked great in a pinch.
