Does the National Guard rake in enough recruits to justify:
"The guard said in a statement posted on its web site it spent $32 million on its NASCAR sponsorship and $12 million on its IndyCar sponsorship this year, and noted that "sports sponsorships have played an important role in helping the guard build strong brand awareness."
While units go without needed equipment? What are your thoughts out there in RallyPoint land?

Do we need to spend $40M so people know we exist, a.k.a. "brand awareness"?
Chalk this cash up with AUSA dues - money to support a lobbying organization to lobby congress for benefits we should already have but are denied by the very same congress AUSA is lobbying - WTF?

Being a volunteer organization, we HAVE to spend money on recruting. No way around that unless you want to reinstitute the draft. The bigger question is did the money we spend have a good return on investment? If it did, then it's money well spent. If not, then we need to put that money somewhere else.

Yes sir, I agree, I'd like to see that report that details the ROI on the $40M that was spent. Hmm...now where was that report filed away at and under...hmm...

I also agree sir. But how may boots could you put on the ground doing personal recruiting in schools, universities, and other public venues with that money? How many wounded service members are there that could perform these duties while back in the states recovering? I think personal one on one interaction with currently serving members would make a better impression on people. Than decals on a car turning left at 180 mph repeatedly.

Why would 44 million be spent to recruit new people when you can not equip the ones you already have?

Unfortunately numbers and patriotism ain't what they used to be. we need to get more people in.
Just like the VA - lets go out and create more veterans to completely overwhelm and already overwhelmed system.

So if I understand correctly. Millions are being spent to bring people in. There is not enough money to train or properly equip them. The VA is under funded and under staffed and therefore cannot care for them when they get out. And when they get out they may still be waiting for their enlistment bonus.
I can not understand why enlistment and retention would be down with incentive programs like that! Maybe if they offer free rides in the multi-million dollar race cars?
