I'm a 42A2O on orders to Cairo, Egypt with a report date of 10 May 2014. I just got my orders last week, and I don't really want the assignment. Are there any other skill level 2O or 3O's out there with orders to Ft. Benning that would maybe like to switch with me? I reenlisted to be here, and I've been here less than 1 year 6 months, so I'd like to stay if I can.

I was in Cairo for 18 Months. Best assignment in my 20 years. I would love if I could go back. I highly encourage you to take the assignment.

I would be cautious of trying to ditch an assignment like that. Branch managers will note situations like that and make view it in a negative way. With the Army down sizing we are pretty much at the will of the Army and the Army is not interested in accommodating us anymore.

You are so right CPT (Join to see) . it is almost like they are trying to see how much certain people will put up with to remain in the service.

Everyone was wondering why I wanted to switch my assignment, and nothing did come out of it. It was a short notice overseas assignment, so I don't think anyone was really interested in taking that on. Good luck with trying to switch yours though!

In my experience, the assignments you did not want are often the best. Korea was one such example.

Don't worry about the weather you are most likely to be in air conditioning environment. Go and cry to the chaplain if the weather is too hot for you.
