I'm a 42A2O on orders to Cairo, Egypt with a report date of 10 May 2014. I just got my orders last week, and I don't really want the assignment. Are there any other skill level 2O or 3O's out there with orders to Ft. Benning that would maybe like to switch with me? I reenlisted to be here, and I've been here less than 1 year 6 months, so I'd like to stay if I can.

How are you a 42A2O as a SPC?
If your Duty MOS (DMOS) is a 2O slot, that's one thing, but as a SPC you are still a 1O level. Once you leave your unit, you are a 1O. Your next unit may not have you working in a 2O slot.
Also, per regs, those who switch orders are responsible for their own relocation costs. I doubt if anyone is going to want to pay their own way to Egypt! However, I do understand your not wanting to go to a failed state under the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood. Your being a female (in a Muslim country) would only add to the dislike of the assignment!

TSgt (Join to see) it is very common for HRC branch assignment managers to fill a requisition with personnel using the 2 up 1 down slotting. I recently had a SFC arrive to my unit that was slotted to come here to fill a SSG position (he was a SSG(P) when placed on assignment) and in October the position is being downgraded to a SGT slot. HRC is not moving him until his DEROS is up.

Yes right before I reclassed back to my original MOS, I noted that (at least in my former BN) there were no longer SSG slots in the BN S-1. Just a SFC, a bunch of SGTs, and a few more junior Enlisted slots. I wonder if HRC wants more 42A3Os to go to the generating force, or if they are just trying to whittle down the numbers.

HRC is culling the force because Congress can't balance the budget. Instead, Congress is balancing it on the backs of the military.
