I am pending a job offer from JPMorgan Chase for an Auto Finance Collections Specialist position that starts on the 25th of January. I finally got somewhere, and it was through the power of networking.

I don't want to get too excited since there is not definite or solid offer but at this point I'll accept anything as I now have a child on the way. It's not too far from my house which is good but just curious if anyone has anything good or bad to say?

SrA David Steyer - First, Congratulations on the lead. Please share your networking strategy as a follow-up. There's a lot of folks on RP that could benefit from your story. Oh yes, Congratulations on your in-coming tax deduction (child) as well!

Thank you!

I spoke with my wife about my difficulties finding employment. My wife teaches and many of her students’ parents know that I was in the military and getting out. When I had the time I came to social events and met various students and their parents which I am sure helped as some of the students see me and get all excited and she is very close with many of the parents and they ask about me too after they met me. With that said I don't get too involved with her career other than a meet and greet and/or drop something off and I leave it at that and she did the same while I was in.

Anyway, a couple of parents were surprised I couldn't find anything. In fact I couldn't get hired at a retail store.

During parent teacher conferences one student's father asked if I had found anything and she let him know that I hadn't found anything. He was willing to help since my wife made really good progress with her son, and referred me to Chase. I applied, got referred for a specific position. I then heard back a few weeks later, where I did a video interview. Then it was quiet for almost two months. Got called in for a face to face interview then I had two face to face interviews in one day.

When I got home I emailed the recruiter I was working with to thank them and they told me I was pending a job offer and would follow up after the 25th of this month and I have been in contact this week with the recruiter. It's not the perfect timing for a child, but given person circumstances I won't mention here, it works out a lot better.

What?! No LinkedIn?! SrA David Steyer, that is "old school" networking. But, that's also exactly the way it's done. Keep us posted --on the new job and kid! Thanks for sharing!

I am better than I used to be! However the position specifically from the recruiter and interviewers is more about trying to figure out where and how the money is coming from if people are unable to make the payments. It's an entry level collections job so we will see how it goes from here! Thanks!
